happy happy halloween!

i came across this cute little display at Nord's Bakery while picking up some Halloween sugar cookies ^^
the wind is howling.
the leaves are so colorful and they are falling off the trees like crazy.
it is a good day for Halloween!
& i cannot believe tomorrow is the first day of november. what?!

pumpkin carving.

we were going to do the whole pumpkin patch experience this year, but dental work and sickness made that impossible. we ended up picking a pumpkin from a bin at Trader Joe's. it is still a great pumpkin :)

i wanted to carve the Stark symbol from Game of Thrones, but Jonas really wanted to carve Oogie Boogie from one of our favorite Halloween movies- The Nightmare Before Christmas. Last year we carved Jack Skellington. like i said, we do love Nightmare Before Christmas. i should also say that it was jonas who carved the pumpkin- i just helped clean it out and then i baked the pumpkin seeds.

& we enjoyed some classic Halloween music while we worked on the pumpkin. unfortunately, i have that purple people song stuck in my mind!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

other Halloween decor around our home. i am obsessed with the vintage skeleton i found. i am still looking for a larger one, but this one will do for now :)

the weekend.

::: pumpkin cookies! :::
::: like me, my hair dresser is against antibiotics, flu shots, etc. and has been telling me to take black elderberry for over a year. i have decided to give it a try and give my immune system a boost everyday throughout the flu season. i'll let you know if it works :::
::: different pears in our fruit bowl :::
::: i printed these little halloween cards from The Black Apple, i love the lady behind it and everything she does. i wish i was so brilliant. i wanted to print one for everyone, but limited it to 8 because you have to use the paper cutter and all that. if you would like to download them, follow this link. :::
::: katze played in the laundry and with the fabric softener sheet. i love her playful personality. it looks like she is using a tissue. :::
::: i made it back to the gym after a week of the flu. it probably wasn't the best idea, but i missed it so so much :::
::: i cooked two crock pots full of chili- one for the church fall festival and one for Sunday dinner at home. i'm over chili for a little while now. :::
::: on Sunday, as Jonas was on his way to church with a lady he drives, a young girl pulled out in front of him. no one was hurt and we are not really sure how we are going to deal with this right now. the young girl was at fault but the damage is worth more than the car. we shall see. :::

jack o' lantern spectacular.

the jack o' lantern spectacular in Iroquois Park was the coolest thing! there were 5,000 pumpkins and they were all beautiful. it was so neat to see them all glowing in the dark while walking on the trail. i recommend this for a spooky fall evening :)

dracula.

we spent an evening with Count Dracula at Actor's Theater! i put on some purple nail polish and super red lipstick for the occasion (and to get in the Halloween spirit). the play was creepy, but not as creepy as the book, which was way good. maybe one of my favorites. after the play, we took a photo with some of the cast, they were so good, but everyone at Actor's is very talented. i love that theater! on another note, i also love jonas' Game of Thrones shirt (House of Stark represent!) i bet his awesome wife got it for him :)

it gets better.

on Monday, i had a ton of anxiety-after many hours of work on Jonas' application "to remove the conditions of his permanent residence", i was finally finished. i had to surrender many of the details of our life because i didn't do a very good job of establishing a "good faith marriage" when i initially mailed the application. there is so much i could say on the subject of homeland security, but i will keep it off my blog. it probably goes without saying that visa situations are the worst. anyway, on monday i was ready to mail it but really needed a few moments before i headed to the post office. i just wanted to read over everything again. i used to do the same thing with examinations in school. i really wanted to leave work on time so i would have time to go through my ritual with the paperwork. of course, i had to do an embalming and i knew i would not leave on time. plus, my blood sugar was so so low and i thought i would die if i didn't eat. i hate when i get so distressed over leaving at a certain time (kind of like a couple weeks ago when i would barely have enough time to go to the St. James Art Fair with Jonas if i left on time and then had to go on a death call. i totally missed going with him, unless 10 minutes and disappointment over a sold out crab cake sandwich counts). somehow, i made it to the post office 3 minutes before it was supposed to close monday- but the doors were locked, what? how dare they leave early! so i went home, i ate something and then i went to the post office with longer hours. also closed. Columbus Day. duh! all of that anxiety for nothing. when things like that happen, i feel so silly for getting worked up. why couldn't i have waited until Tuesday in the first place? truth is, i could have. but i really wanted to drop that huge stack of papers off at the post. i knew it would feel good (it did, by the way):
and then i went with Jonas to Stevens & Stevens. we shared a tuna melt and cherished our day off together. it is the best day of the week for me:
i also made banana bread. yes. yes. yes:
so, monday was rough but by tuesday, things were better and i felt better. it helps to have a nice, clean home, a little time to download some music, maybe the new episode of Walking Dead and working on a few projects. good for me :)

more than a common beard.

oh how i love jonas' beard. i think it is so sexy. and he usually takes really good care of it. i'm not sure what happened yesterday, he just let it go. ;)
