a little january weekend.

Jonas and I had our first date in a long time- the Tens at Actor's Theater! Mostly, it was so funny. I miss going to the theater, but it was a bit strange to go somewhere besides work without my sidekick.
Friday was spent taking care of our feverish babe and watching Battle of the Sexes.
We fit in lots of cuddles and smiles with Z.
The weather was warm! 60s!
We started library trips again- I stopped for a couple months because I thought you could only pay cash at the library and kept forgetting. They also take your money online. It feels good to go back!
Saturdays= lunch ordered out. Still not worth it to brave a restaurant with a toddler.
I was on time for church, but I did have a talk to give. So, one time thing, haha.
I listened to the new First Aid Kit album so much. Ruins is one of my favorite songs ever.
I totally made my own yogurt. Technically, I never have to buy it again if I keep using the starter from what I made. woot!
We went to the Speed Art Museum. Mostly, we spent time in the preschool room. I'm not complaining, it was really fun. Photos from that below...
I can really relate to this kid's art. The artist wrote:
"In the future I want to be a pizza worker because I love pizza and want to see pizza every day."
This was Old Louisville, crazy! ::

louisville women's rally.

I love the Women's Marches & Rallies.
I am so thankful to live in this time & for all of the women who paved the way for things to be so easy. I really believe in equality, through race, class, gender, sexual orientation. Any chance to gather for that is great to me!

Here's to Strong Women.
May We Know Them.
May We Be Them.
May We Raise Them.

winter daysssss.

Lately Tuesdays have been filled with organizing! I suddenly feel like I have to consolidate and print all of the photos I have taken over the years and there are so many! Sort of inspired by Swedish Death Cleaning. I don’t want to leave any time soon, but if I do, I would like my stuff to be a little easier for my family. At some point in the next few years, I want to start memory books of the highlights with journal pages and photos so that my family doesn’t feel obligated to keep every photo- but I am keeping those for me in my life.

I have also been trying to get my basement storage in order, label everything and finally finish Zara’s playroom- but I may need an ikea trip to help with that. I won’t complain :)

These cold winter days have kept me in line with my project. I have a hard time staying in the house without seeing every little thing on my own list.

We still try to do something fun, just the two of us. Unfortunately, Zara’s looming nap makes it tough to go to some of the open gyms- which are always at nap time. Last week she fell asleep on the way so I skipped it. But the big hill in Cherokee park is always open! It is the biggest, best sledding hill around. And you get a leg workout pulling the sled back up. I wanted to go down ten times, but Z was done after 3. I think she thought we were going to a playground and wanted that instead. Oops.

After, we got hot cocoa at please&thanks. Z gave me a few kisses and danced to nirvana. I love her bones.

sled ride!

I wanted to take Z out in the snow all day, so I just crossed my fingers that it wouldn't all melt before I got home from work (it usually doesn't last long in KY). I was in luck, we bundled up and had the best time!
She loves snow, she really is our little German girl::
not the best backdrop, but it was the only little hill nearby that we could sled on, with a push from Papa. Zara just laughed and laughed, she loved it::

 "I'll pull you, Mama!"::
Poor Jonas was so out of breath from pulling me, but she insisted::

& hot chocolate made from my dutch cocoa::
Maybe we will go back out tomorrow!

magical winter storm.

I have been reading a book about hygge, such a wonderful Danish word/ idea/ way of life.
One thing that can make something hygge is a danger (like a snow storm or thunder storm) that doesn't put you in harm's way.
Zara and I had one of the most hygge afternoons. We watched the snow fall, made a blanket fort, lit a candle, listened to Jose Gonzalez & the Avett Brothers, danced to the music, had the cat laying on the vent to stay warm, there were cuddles, comfort food and cookies.
This is the kind of stuff my dreams are made of...

She waved to the cookies & gave them a kiss. hahaha.
