One morning, we hiked up
Stone Mountain. It was only a mile, but it was steep and extremely humid. It was so rewarding to finish! Jonas even ran up the mountain towards the top. He is awesome.
we had "german" food after stone mountain, but it was not so good. some german places just fail.
we have two anniversaries because we were married august 31st in denmark for our civil marriage (visa issues) and september 1st in the frankurt, germany temple. we had planned to go out to a nice restaurant the first night, but i had a migraine so we ended up having one of my favorite foods,
neapolitan pizza. it was so yummy. then i laid in the hotel room while jonas went running. haha. luckily we had another date to try again..
the next day we went to the
georgia aquarium. i was so excited about this because they have several whale sharks and beluga whales. unfortunately, with your way overpriced admission, you get tickets to a dolphin show which is really just a hilariously horrible musical. i mean, it was so bad. we just laughed the whole time and i loved the guy sitting next to me who had his arms crossed the entire time and a look on his face that showed how idiotic he felt to be in attendance. but we will never forget it :D also, i felt violated by the security checks to get into the aquarium. here safety, have some of my liberty- sorry, these situations make me say these things...
anyway, it was fascinating to watch the giant manta rays doing flips and the whale sharks were so neat, we got to watch one of their feedings. and then we walked outside to a group of people protesting the aquarium and i felt a little ashamed of myself :/ but here are some photos before i felt like that...
i have mentioned dragoncon already, but it was the best to find the different characters walking around. night time was particularly interesting.
we tried out the atlanta food truck park, we need this in louisville! atlanta has it every weekend and there are some good ones. i tried a spiedie, some sandwich from new york :) afterward, we went to ikea because we usually do if there is one nearby, yay for ikea dates!
i decided we had to stay in the
marriot marquis. it just looked so beautiful (and it was). the lobby is gorgeous and riding down on the elevator was thrilling. their fitness center was nice and so was the pool, but it was a bit more crowded than the westin and switching hotels was not jonas' favorite thing. BUT, the view could not be beat and we got to see the other side of atlanta.
we had the good old anniversary on labor day thing, where so many restaurants are closed. we ended up taking a taxi to a place that was actually open. but that was fun, i never need to take a taxi. jonas was nice to arrange that so i didn't have to walk in the rain. we had a great
sushi dinner at RA and coconut creme brulee, yes! after, i actually did want to walk back to the hotel (even in my heels) because we weren't in midtown much this trip. we got to see where
gone with the wind was written,
the fox theater and even found some sister missionaries and walked around with them for a while.
on our last day, jonas picked out an awesome brunch place (yes, i did have garlic grits. i love the south) and i had to see a little bit more of the city. this included their little flat iron building...
on our way home we stopped in nashville for some
edley's bbq and to pick up some dr. oetker pizzas(we used to buy them in germany and they used to be the thing i wanted to bring back but now they are sold in the us, just not where i live). ps- sometimes i wish i lived in nashville.
