Iceland's southern coast.

We took a drive on Iceland's southern coast toward Vík. We wish we could have gone to the glacier lagoon (Jökulsárlón) & Diamond beach, but it was a few more hours away and we did not want to stress about it. We still had a great day with our first stop being Seljalandsfoss. It was very invigorating to walk behind the waterfall::

The drive! So great! ::

We also stopped at the Skógar folk museum. We explored the traditional turf houses and learned more about life in Iceland long ago.

There is no father Christmas in Iceland, but there are the 13 yule lads. They leave an old potato for you if you have been bad. Is it okay that I find this amusing? ::

Next door to the museum is Skógarfoss. Why yes, I climbed to the top with a large toddler on my back & yes, it still hurts. But it was still worth it. There were sheep on a hill with fog around it and an ocean view! ::

Next up, Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach with basalt columns and puffins (we kept singing "puffin rock")! We could also see Reynisdrangar in the distance, a stop we wanted to make but missed due to the daylight running out. This was Zara's favorite stop, she really enjoys sand and running away from the waves as they came to shore. The ocean here is so dangerous, there are "sneaker waves" and I was so terrified that Zara would get away from me, even though I kept a hand on her. I really loved the bizarre rock formations.

One of the few sunsets we experienced::
